Insider Series | Meet Danielle DeFiore Photography

We may be a little biased, but Colorado has some of the most incredibly talented vendors around— which got us thinking. We wanted to showcase some of our favorites in the industry with a little Q&A session over cocktails! We’re kicking off our inaugural Insider Series with the amazing and talented Danielle DeFiore Photography.

Q: Tell us a little more about you, your business and what you do!

I tend to give people the following quick pitch: I'm a full-time wedding, family, and portrait photographer and a part-time homesteader living on three acres just north of Denver. I got my first taste of Colorado on a trip to Telluride in 2003, and it didn't take long for me to make a permanent return—I moved up to the front range in 2007 and have been here ever since. I've photographed over 100 weddings in Colorado over the past eight years along with a handful of others across the country, but Colorado feels like my sweet spot. I'm deeply inspired by the never-ending natural beauty of this amazing state and the people and places connected to it. I'm a hybrid shooter—meaning I use both analog and digital film—and there's no greater honor to me than to play a role in a couple's celebration and help tell their story.

A Cozy, Fall Mountain Wedding in Rocky Mountain National Park | Black Canyon Inn + Twin Owls Steakhouse, Estes Park, Colorado | Colorado Wedding Planner

Today, we’re flashing back to a seriously favorite r+g couple from Fall 2017. Krystyna + Blaise are awesome in every way— funny, creative, intelligent, and most importantly, know how to throw a good party.

Our relationship with these two started a year earlier when we planned the wedding of Krystyna’s brother (and man of honor). We felt an instantly connection to their family, who are such warm and welcoming people, Naturally, we were thrilled when we found out we’d get to continue the fun + planning for another year with them.

Krys + Blaise wanted that quintessential, cozy cabin feel for their wedding and we’re drawn to the beautiful venues of Black Canyon Inn and Twin Owls Steakhouse in Estes Park, Colorado. Colorado decided to hand us a particularly windy Fall day in the mountains— but Krys + Blaise were so happy to be marrying each other, a little wind wasn’t going to stop this celebration! Ironically enough, Krys has an incredibly fitting song choice to walk down the aisle to Blaise— “The Wind” by Cat Stevens. Foreshadowing or coincidence….we’ll never know. Their heartfelt ceremony was filled with meaningful moments; beautiful words from their siblings and a serenade by BOTH sets of parents with ukeleles. All of K+B’s closest friends and family cozied up with blankets to escape the chill and watch these two promise each other forever.

Guests we’re warmly greeted by a cocktail hour at the steakhouse. Roaring fireplaces and a selection of fantastic red wines were waiting for everyone that walked through the door. In addition to a wine aficionado, Blais is also a talented watercolor artist; a beautiful hand painted watercolor seating chart, place cards + table numbers directed guests to find their seats for dinner. As the evening continued, guests enjoyed a delicious meal from Twin Owls Steakhouse and more heartfelt toasts were given by all of the people that clearly love these two dearly. After that, it was time to party— and party they did!

Krystyna + Blaise are going on year two of marriage now— cheers, guys! We loved being a part of your day and we loved reliving it through these photos. Wishing you all the years of happiness ahead! Vendor team listed below.

It Takes A Village— And Kathryn + Jake Have one | Private Property - Lander, Wyoming | Wyoming Wedding Planner

When we first chatted with Kathryn, she explained her ideal wedding day to us, held on a beautiful piece of private property in one of their favorite little towns (and the one they call home)— Lander, Wyoming. Kathryn + Jake had the vision to bring 200+ of their closest friends and family to this remote spot in Wyoming so they could share in the fun, funky small town vibe of Lander. (if you’ve never been….go visit. It’s awesome). They wanted to celebrate their first day of married life together over great food and drink and a seriously great dance party surrounded by the people they love most.

Given the beautiful and somewhat remote location (think lack of cell service, no power or water access, etc), this wedding was going to take a team of amazing vendors and friends pulled from all over the state and beyond. Luckily, Kathryn + Jake had ‘em! With the help of Wyoming Tent & Event Supply, Bistro Catering, Dandelion Farms, and an army of K+J’s more-than-willing crew, this stunning private ranch was transformed into the most perfect wedding venue.

We were amazed at the sheer awesomeness of Kathryn + Jake’s friend group. Throughout the wedding weekend, they would show up lending a hand with the array of tasks presented to them.— lining a 1/2 mile stretch of dirt road with luminarias, setting up 200 chairs in the middle of a field, or showing up in full force to surprise Kathryn + Jake with one of the best flash mobs we’ve ever seen.

Wyoming’s weather can be just as temperamental as Colorado’s weather; the Fall day started off sunny and warm. By the start of ceremony, Wyoming brought a little wind to the party but the weather held out while Kathryn + Jake exchanged their vows. As the rain started to fall, guests cozied into the tent and were greeted with margaritas and appetizers to warm them right back up. As cocktail hour continued, the sun reappeared and a huge rainbow filled the Wyoming sky. Kiddos ran around in the grass playing while the adults mingled and chatted over drinks and stories of recent adventures.

We loved the natural design elements that Kathryn + Jake incorporated into their day as well. The tent was filled with long rows of inviting wooden tables. The handmade place cards were individually tied bunches of herbs which led guests to their seats for dinner. The fabulous Theresa of Dandelion Farm created a beautiful and flowing design of greenery down the middle of each table. Candlelight filled the tent as the sun went down and guests enjoyed a delicious family style meal by Bistro Catering. Kathryn’s friend Meaghan, a trained pastry chef, created the most beautiful display of handmade cakes for dessert.

The dance party force was strong with this crew and we quickly understood why. Kathryn + Jake’s longtime friends had secretly planned a flash mob and taught all 200 guests the moves over the course of the last year. K+J were smiling from ear to ear by the end of it (along with us and everyone else in the room).

They say it takes a village and Kathryn + Jake have that village. We were constantly amazed by the dedication and commitment of their circle of friends and family. If the people you surround yourself with are a reflection of who you are, it proves that Kathryn + Jake are some pretty special people. And we couldn’t agree more with that. Cheers to you two! We adored working with you and watching you promise each other forever! You can bet we’ll be coming back to visit you in Lander. Until the next happy hour together, cheers guys! Xo.
